Pet Hydration Awareness Month
Pet Hydration Awareness Month is observed in July. It’s a time to raise awareness about the importance of keeping pets properly hydrated, especially during the hot summer months.
Ancare Veterinary Hospital provides an excellent on-line article for pet owners with important reminders of why proper hydration is essential for the health and well-being of our furry companions. Tips include:
- Ensuring that pets have access to fresh, clean water at all times.
- Switching to wet food, which has a higher moisture content than dry food.
- Being aware of the signs of dehydration, such as lethargy, decreased urination, and loss of appetite.
- Moving the water bowl if pets refuse to drink, and keeping the bowl in a clean area away from food dishes and litter boxes.
- Limiting exercise and outside time on hot days.
Ancare Veterinary Hospital reminds us that keeping our dogs and cats well-hydrated is a crucial step in maintaining their health and avoiding dehydration and heatstroke. They also encourage pet owners to consult a veterinarian with any concerns about a pet’s hydration or health.
Here’s to keeping our furry friends hydrated all summer!
